Submarine channel

During my internship at Submarine in 2003, one of my tasks was to update their online media channel called Submarine Channel. I tweaked it, added interfaces for shows, and many more little things.

In the current version of the channel these interfaces are still available, even though they were originally created for the old site.

Sam the Dog

I originally had a very different idea for this interface: I wanted to create a dialog between you, the viewer, and one of the characters from the series, a sausage salesman. Depending on how you responded in the conversation, you would be led to different episodes.

In the end I created this interface instead, and in less than a day, since I suddenly had to work on another project.

Johnny Nitro

This interface used vector data taken from the series, which was one of the first onlines series that used vectorised graphics, to create random compositions as a background. One of the problems was to make sure it would still work ok on slow computers, which tought me a lot about optimising Flash animations.

Dichtvorm

A large project that was also shown on the dichtvorm website . The interface not only provided access to interpretations of poems by animators, but the interface itself became an interpretation of the poems.

The images aren't just animated either, they often respond to your actions. For example, try hitting the gas pedal in "Vectra in Drenthe" to make the poem scroll past faster.

Station call

As a bonus, here is a station call I created for Submarinechannel.com. If you have the time, why don't you go and check it out, it really is a great site with wonderful off-beat chunks of media.
