One of the requirements to receive a MA in Digital Media Design is to do a group project. Over the course of 8 weeks our group managed to do research, create a concept and actually build and set-up the central / reception area for the Crossing Border Festival, an annual festival that takes place in The Hague.
The concept was that of a zen-garden. People came here to relax and reconstitute themselves before heading out on another cultural adventure.
Trees made of light stretched out over the visitors below. The leafs were helium balloons that had little
paper cards attached to them. People could pull down the balloons, write messages on them and then let them float back into the space above for someone else to find it again.
Two seating islands with abstract silver fountains provided contemplative poems while videos of nature were projected onto the curtains.
A 3D soundscape by Roberta Flack tied all the elements together, creating a great experience that even made the news.
My role in this project was project leader.
